Master’s degree or equivalent; eligible four-year/eight-semester Bachelor’s degree route also available.

• General / Unreserved / General-EWS: 55% • OBC-NCL / SC / ST / PwD / PwBD / Third Gender: 50% • Four-Year Bachelor's Degree Programme: 75% aggregate marks or equivalent grade. Relaxation of 5% marks may be allowed for specified categories in the four-year Bachelor's Degree Programme.
Age Relaxation
Up to 5 years for OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, PwBD, Third Gender and women applicants. Up to 5 years for candidates with research experience in the relevant/related subject of post-graduation, subject to the specified conditions. Up to 5 years for candidates who have served in the Armed Forces, subject to the length of service. Total age relaxation on the above grounds shall not exceed 5 years.

Official Guideline
Joint CSIR-UGC NET determines eligibility for the award of Junior Research Fellowship and appointment as Assistant Professor, appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D., or admission to Ph.D. only.
The result is divided into three categories:
- Category 1: Award of JRF and appointment as Assistant Professor.
- Category 2: Appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D.
- Category 3: Admission to Ph.D. only.
Candidates qualifying under Category 2 and Category 3 can use the NET examination as an entrance test for Ph.D. admission. Their NET marks carry 70% weightage and the interview/viva voce conducted by the concerned University/HEI carries 30% weightage.
The number of candidates qualifying for JRF-NET, Assistant Professor and Ph.D. Only will be decided by the Results Committee.
